Q-Cells and LDK Solar announce continuation of supply contract for solar wafer.
Q-Cells SE and LDK Solar Co., Ltd. jointly announce that the two companies have reached an agreement to continue their supply contract for solar wafers from 2009 to 2018. During recent amicable negotiations, the two companies resolved all differences of opinion over the interpretation of the agreement and neither side will pursue legal action.
It has been reported earlier that Q-Cells SE terminated the contract made in 2007 with LDK Solar Co. Ltd to deliver solar wafers, since LDK Solar failed to meet the contractual obligations of 2009 to deliver wafers for about 1000 tons of silicon. Under the initial contract to deliver solar wafers for 43000 tons of silicon during 2009 - 2018 Q-Cells made the advance payment totaling to 244,5 million USD.
Q-Cells and LDK Solar have agreed to increase the flexibility of delivery schedule and give Q-Cells a preferred customer status. In addition to that, the parties have finalized an agreement to expand their cooperation in the areas of cell and module processing.
LDK Solar, making solar wafers of polysilicon in September this year completed the ramp-up of the first production line of its PCS plant in Xinyu City, China. The plant producing 15 000 tpa of polysilicon today is the largest one in China. Before LDK Solar startup, the largest polysilicon plant located in Laeshan and built according to the process design of Giprosintez (Volgograd) has been annually outputting 3000 MT.
Girposintez, Volgograd, is one of the leading Russian design institutes. Long-term experience in silicon organics, thorough studying and summarizing of the world's leading TCS and PCS production technologies, proprietary patents and know-how enable Giprosintez to rightfully become Russia's leader in the field of TCS and polysilicon production.
Giprosintez is the only Russian institute developing the entire set of documentation for polysilicon production facilities in 3D. Today the documentation developed by Volgograd designers based on 3D modeling is used for construction of new polysilicon production in Irkutsk region
