China Solar Tariffs May Match Coal Power by 2020, Xinhua Says.

China’s solar-power tariffs may match those of electricity produced by coal-fired plants by 2020 as the country accelerates the development of cleaner energy, the official Xinhua News Agency reported July 28, citing comments from Liu Qi, a deputy director at the National Energy Administration, at a conference in Nanjing.

Solar-power tariffs may fall to between 0.6 yuan and 0.8 yuan a kilowatt-hour by 2020, and China’s solar-power output capacity may rise to 20 gigawatts by then from about 5 gigawatts by 2015, Xinhua cited Liu as saying.

Over 80 % of all solar cells are produced from crystalline silicon. Silicon industry of China demonstrates the highest growth rates in the world. It started from the first polysilicon production plant in Laeshan, designed in 2004 by Giprosintez. Today China produces almost half of all silicon produced in the world.

Today the first Russian polysilicon producing plant in being built in Usolye-Sibirskoye, Irkutsk region. Construction documentation for this plant was developed by Giprosintez. It is expected that manufacturing cost of polysilicon will be between 20-25 USD per 1 kg. Start up of the first phase is scheduled for September.

Volgograd design institute Giprosintez is the only Russian company to provide the full complex of engineering services for polysilicon production facilities. Long-term experience in silicon organics, thorough studying and summarizing of the world's leading TCS and PCS production technologies, proprietary patents and know-how, 3D design capabilities enable Giprosintez to be a leader in this field.
